OPITO APPROVED GAS TESTER (AGT) TRAINING

OPITO Authorized Gas Tester (AGT) Training: Mastering Atmospheric Safety (OPITO Code: 9240)

In the high-stakes environment of offshore oil and gas operations, the role of an Authorized Gas Tester (AGT) is the first line of defense against invisible threats. Whether preparing for confined space entry or overseeing critical hot work, the accuracy of your gas monitoring determines the safety of the entire crew. Our OPITO-approved AGT Course (Code 9240) in Abu Dhabi provides the rigorous, industry-standard certification required to declare an atmosphere safe for operation. The OPITO 9240 standard is the global benchmark for gas testing. This course isn't just about reading a monitor; it’s about understanding the science of gas behavior, the limitations of detection technology, and the legislative framework that governs offshore safety. Validity: 3 Years (Global recognition) Target Audience: Personnel responsible for gas testing in operational environments, safety watches, and standby person

Critical Skills: Gas Testing for Confined Spaces & Hot Work

Critical Skills: Gas Testing for Confined Spaces & Hot Work.

Unlike basic safety courses, the Authorized Gas Tester program dives deep into:

  • Atmospheric Sequencing: Learning the correct order of testing to prevent equipment damage and ensure accuracy.
  • Environmental Impact: How wind, temperature, and platform configuration affect gas plumes and sensor readings.
  • Behavior of Gases: Understanding why some gases settle in "pockets" while others disperse, a critical skill for confined space safety.

Training Logistics & Location

Our training facility in Mussafah Industrial Area, Abu Dhabi, is equipped with the latest portable multi-gas detectors and simulated environments to provide hands-on experience.

  • Duration: 14-16 Hours (Guided Learning)
  • Trainer-to-Delegate Ratio: 1:12 (Ensuring personalized attention)
  • Medical Requirements: Participants must be physically fit and complete a medical screening upon arrival.
  • Dress Code: Professional industrial attire (Coveralls, long pants, closed-toe shoes).

FAQ

ADNOC Offshore and its group companies require personnel involved in atmospheric testing to hold an OPITO-approved Authorized Gas Tester (AGT) certification ensuring you meet both international and local site-specific requirements.

The certificate is valid for 3 years. To maintain your authorization on-site, you must undergo a refresher course and re-assessment before the expiry date.

In Abu Dhabi, AGTs must understand ADNOC's color-coded risk zones:

  • Red Zone: High risk of lethal $H_2S$ release (SCBA mandatory).
  • Amber Zone: Tolerable risk but requires EEBA (Escape Mask).
  • Yellow/Green Zones: Lower risk areas where monitoring is still essential for continuous safety.
