Our one-day (≈4-hour) course teaches you to recognize H2S hazards, use gas detectors and breathing apparatus, and execute emergency escape procedures. By course end you’ll earn an OPITO H2S Safety Certificate (valid 2 years) meeting ADNOCOffshore requirements and boosting your safety credentials.
This Basic H2S Safety course (OPITO Standard 9014) covers all essential knowledge and skills for working safely around hydrogen sulfide You’ll learn how H2S is formed and where it occurs (oil wells, gas processing, sewage, etc.), its physical properties, and its severe health effects. We teach you industry exposure limits and monitoring: for example, NIOSH recommends a 10 ppm ceiling and OSHA sets a 20 ppm limit for H2S. Interactive lectures explain H2S detection equipment and alarm systems, while practical sessions show you how to don an Escape Breathing Apparatus (EBA) mask or hood and connect to a compressed-air cylinder under timed conditions. You’ll also drill emergency responses – such as alarm evacuation and coordination with rescue teams – in realistic scenarios. Training concludes with a written and practical assessment per OPITO standards

Use portable H₂S gas detectors: perform pre-use checks and respond correctly to alarm readings.
Don and operate an OPITO-approved Escape Breathing Apparatus (EBA) with mask or hood quickly (within 30 seconds)
